Shauna R. Martin
Shauna was born in Los Angeles, California and lived in many places and attended a great number of schools before her military family settled in Norman, Arkansas when she was in middle school. Shauna attended the University of Central Arkansas where she obtained a BA with top honors as the school’s top ranked graduate, and received a JD from the University of Arkansas where she became a true razorback. Shauna went on to get a Masters of Law in Taxation from the University of Missouri Kansas City. Shauna first practiced law at Husch Blackwell, a large regional law firm in the Midwest. Shauna quickly realized that while she enjoyed assisting her clients with their legal problems, she also excelled at serving as a trusted business partner to her clients. In 1998 she left private practice, and joined Dallas, TX headquartered TriStar Aerospace, an aerospace distribution company, as its General Counsel and quickly assisted with the company’s initial public offering and subsequent sale to Honeywell. Shauna quickly landed another prestigious General Counsel job at Hotels.com where she was instrumental in completing its initial public offering, as well.
In early 2000, Shauna met her husband, Kirk, and together they decided to relocate to Austin, TX to pursue their passion of mountain and road biking, and all things outdoors. In Austin, Shauna was recruited to serve as the General Counsel of General Bandwidth, now known as GENBAND, a telecom start-up. After four years at General Bandwidth, Shauna went back into private practice in 2004 with a small firm where she and current partner, Lee Grable, soon became full partners. Back in private practice, Shauna had an active practice providing outsourced General Counsel services and transaction services to a number of Austin-based technology companies.
However, in 2008, GENBAND, under new management, began a roll-up of other telecom businesses and asked Shauna to return as its full-time General Counsel. Shauna served as GENBAND’s General Counsel for a second 4 year period during which it acquired active telecom operations in over 50 different countries. At GENBAND, Shauna managed the legal affairs of the company with a small team of lawyers. In addition to managing the day-to-day legal affairs of the company, she also closed more than a dozen financing rounds on behalf of the company and led the company to close over a dozen technology and asset acquisitions and divestitures, including the historic acquisition of the Carrier VoIP and Application Services business out of bankruptcy from Nortel, which quadrupled the size of GENBAND’s operations.
GENBAND subsequently relocated to Dallas, and after four years of commuting to Dallas, Shauna left in 2012 to spend more time in Austin with her family. Shauna and Lee decided to form Grable Martin Fulton PLLC (See GeneralCounselHub.com) along with Suzy Fulton in order to provide a much needed hub for General Counsels and senior in-house counsel to practice law in a virtual, low overhead environment.
In 2004, Shauna and Kirk were blessed with a son, Cooper. However, when Cooper was only 1, Shauna was diagnosed with breast cancer. Shauna continued her practice through two years of treatment, and emerged healthy and has remained cancer-free for the last 8 years. As a result of her breast cancer experience, Shauna has become an active advocate for breast cancer issues, serving on the Board of the Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas for the past six years (two as President of the Board and currently as Chair of the Development Committee). She is also a founding member of the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls, a social network of young breast cancer survivors, and an author of a breast cancer advocacy blog and a frequent speaker and chair of breast cancer fundraising events.
As a way to recover from the rigors of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries as part of her breast cancer treatment, Shauna went in search of a way to restore her health and prevent a recurrence of her cancer. After reading about the connection between food and disease, Shauna began the practice of daily green juicing, which she has continued for the past 8 years. In December of 2012, Shauna decided that it was time to pursue her passion of bringing her green juice recipes to the masses, and founded Daily Greens, a manufacturer of raw, cold-pressed green juice. While Shauna is still an active member of the firm, she devotes the majority of her time to serving as the CEO of Daily Greens, which manufactures and sells its raw green juices to customers at retail outlets such as Whole Foods Market and Central Market.
Shauna is admitted to practice law in Texas and Arkansas, and is a member of the Texas Bar Association. She has also been an active member of the Texas General Counsel Forum, the Association of Corporate Counsel and is a founding member and former President-Elect of the Association of Women in Technology.
