James C. Harvey, known to his friends and clients as “Jim,” has joined the Firm as a Member. Jim came to Dallas from the small Panhandle town of Gruver, Texas, where he grew up on the ranches and farms of his father. Jim was an active participant in all sports in Gruver High School and was a three sport letterman. During his schooling in Gruver, he spent all his non-school time either playing sports or working on his father’s ranches and farms. He came to Dallas in the fall of 1959 to attend Southern Methodist University and has made Dallas his home since his graduation from the Dedman SMU School of Law.

Jim is a double graduate from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. He holds a BBA degree from the Cox School of Business at SMU (1963) with a double major in Accounting and Banking & Finance. He also holds a JD degree from the Dedman SMU School of Law (1966), with emphasis on business law and corporate entities. Mr. Harvey has engaged in the practice of law in the Dallas/Fort Worth area since being admitted to the Texas State Bar in September 1966, specializing in real estate matters, general business matters, business entity formation and governance, oil & gas matters, wills & trusts, and business transactional matters.

For the past decade, Mr. Harvey has devoted much of his time and practice to matters involving oil & gas and refinery analysis and implementation, including the selection of potential sites for the construction and development of independent modular refineries in Texas, along with his other legal disciplines as mentioned above. Additionally, Jim has engaged in the analysis and planning of rail, barge and trucking as they relate to the production, refining and delivery of hydrocarbon products.

Jim has been in-house counsel, General Counsel, owner/manager, President & CEO of various entities engaged in real estate development and management. He has a depth of “hands on” experience in multi-family development, commercial, and management businesses, in that he has built and managed rental properties (residential and commercial) in thirteen (13) different states. In addition to his real estate experience, Jim served as General Counsel for a private oil & gas exploration company that had operations both onshore and offshore for eight (8) years. He served as On-Site Counsel to the RTC during the aftermath of the Savings & Loan crisis of the mid 80s and early 90s, having extensive experience in loan work-outs, re-structuring, liquidations, and all related disciplines for seven (7) thrifts for the RTC as an independent On-Site counsel.

Mr. Harvey is married and has made his home in Dallas, Texas for over fifty five (55) years. He is the father of two grown daughters. He is a native Texan. He has extensive international experience in the corporate world, having traveled to and conducted business in the UK, Spain, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Mexico, Honduras, New Zealand, Africa, and Canada. Mr. Harvey brings a broad wealth of practical and legal experience to Grable Martin Fulton PLLC. Jim prides himself in being a problem solver; not a problem maker.
