Deby is an accomplished employment counsel with substantial corporate experience in employment law and over 15 years of corporate experience in human resources.
Deby is a native Texan, and as is true of all native Texans, darned proud of it! Growing up just north of Houston in Conroe, Texas, Deby was exposed to the legal field from a very young age. The daughter of an arson investigator, she had a childhood filled with adventure – assisting her father investigate fire scenes all over the state. Spending lots of time in court rooms and depositions (as an observer, of course!), she often witnessed her father testify as an expert witness.
Deby began a long distance relationship between Texas and New York in 1992, when she met her best friend and future husband, Matt – *gasp* – a Yankee! In 1995, Deby and Matt decided it would be nice to live in the same state. So Matt packed up his things and moved to Dallas to go “see about a girl.” They married on a beautiful sunny day in August of 1997.
Deby’s passion for employment law began shortly thereafter in 1998 when she entered the human resources profession. Over the next 12 years, she built a successful career in human resources with well-known organizations such as Tenet Healthcare, Texas Health Resources, and Wells Fargo. Seeking even more challenge from her deepening love for employment law, Deby chose to leave her career and attend law school. She felt that this move would enable her to fully serve her clients in all aspects of employment law. During her attendance at Texas A&M University School of Law (formerly Texas Wesleyan University School of Law), Deby clerked with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, and Littler Mendelson, PC.
After graduating law school, Deby took an in-house position with Engage PEO where she served as Assistant General Counsel and HR Manager. At Engage, Deby assisted clients of all sizes, in a multitude of industries across the nation such as health care, franchisees and franchisors, manufacturing, restaurants and food service, technology, and retail. She provided advice and counsel to all levels of management and human resources professionals on a broad range of employment-related issues such as: review and drafting of employee policies, handbooks and programs; wage and hour compliance (including independent contractor issues and proper employee classifications); discipline and terminations; internal investigations; pre-litigation demands; leave issues; drafting of employment contract and agreements; hiring and recruitment; training and compliance with applicable state and federal employment laws and regulations; and represented clients in agency audits, investigations and mediations.
Deby is a self-proclaimed Harry Potter “Super-Freak” and has been known to attend Harry Potter conferences as often as possible. She also enjoys attending Comic-Cons with her husband who is a Transformers fan. They enjoy vacationing as often as possible on the beautiful Caribbean island of Antigua.
Being lovers of water and avid cooks, they also enjoy entertaining family and friends on their patio overlooking Lake Sharon. They have kindly been allowed to share this home with three very sweet, but opinionated, cats.
Deby is excited to continue her career with Grable Martin Fulton PLLC by offering corporate clients valuable advice and counsel for all things people-related. Having both corporate HR and in-house legal experience, Deby is uniquely experienced to assist clients with their employment needs and “people problems” by finding the best solution to employment issues by balancing the needs of both the operation and the employee.
